| Omar spared time to camp in Srinagar, be with his people | | Guru hanging | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 21: Guru hanging has given an opportunity to Chief Minister to spend quite some time in Srinagar without being questioned in Jammu. The Chief Minister had talked about reversing the Darbar move so that he could stay in Srinagar for most of the time in year. Supporting his argument, Omar said he wanted to provide people better governance at the time when they need it most. He believes that during winters Kashmir valley needs more attention as they have to deal with hard weather condition and also face unprecedented power cuts and for Jammu he maintained that in scorching heat during summer, Jammu people also need Government's attention. But there were no takers of this suggestion and Omar failed to convince his coalition partner Congress and other Jammu based parties and his plans failed. But the Central Government decided to hang Afzal Guru, to which Omar reacted with a statement that it will have adverse impact in Valley and flew to Srinagar for monitoring the situation. He also called all his NC Ministers to Srinagar and told them to occupy district headquarters and asses the situation. Thus without taking Darbar to Srinagar, Omar succeeded in providing more time to Valley people without facing any opposition from Jammu based parties and even his coalition partner. Now, whenever he wishes, he flies back to Srinagar and remains available for his own people in his own backyard. Now, the budget session of State Assembly is going to start on February 28, and Omar and his Ministers will have to sit in Jammu to attend the session. It will, however, hurt him as he will not be able to give more time to people of Valley. |
