| Expulsion of Togadia and entry of Mirwaiz | | Strange coincidence | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 21: It's really a strange coincidence. Acting president of VHP Parveen Togadia, a leading cancer specialist, who reached Jammu airport today in the morning, was not allowed to enter Jammu, part of India. He was sent back from the airport itself. The NC-Congress coalition government took this extraordinary step fearing that his Jammu visit could vitiate the atmosphere and create communal tensions in the state. Togadia was to stay in Jammu for two days. He was scheduled to address panchs and sarpanchs and a few public meetings at Akhnoor, R S Pura, Kathua, Samba and Jammu. That he was not allowed to enter Jammu and was sent back the moment he landed at the Jammu airport speaks for itself.
Togadia is neither a terrorist nor a separatist. Nor is he an agent of Pakistan.The VHP leader who talks about the problems of the community to which he belongs like leaders of other communities talk about the problems and aspirations of their communities. But more than that, he is a nationalist of nationalists and the one who he has dedicated himself to the cause of the nation sacrificing everything that he possessed not-so-long-ago. Besides, he belongs to an organization devoted to the community cause which is a recognized lawful organization. It is not a banned organization. Not only this, Tagodia did not come to Jammu to cross the border and enter Pakistan to do what the likes of Hafiz Saeed and ISI operatives have been doing in India and the likes of Mirwaiz do in Pakistan during their visits to that enemy country. Togadia simply came to Jammu, which is an integral part of India, only to address a few meetings. He is a legitimate Indian entitled to exercise all rights available under the Indian Constitution, including the right to visit any part of India. Had he been deported back to the place from where he came to Jammu on the ground that he was making a seditious speech or inciting one community against the other community, one could have appreciated the government decision. But it deported him even before he opened his mouth in Jammu which only suggests that all is not well in Jammu and Kashmir State.
The State Government, on the other hand, not only allowed the known secessionist and enemy of India Mirwaiz to enter Kashmir the same day but also ensured that he reached his Nagin Lake residence safely under foolproof security. What would he do today in Srinagar after his arrival from New Delhi? He would arrive in Srinagar today to chair a meeting of the APHC at his headquarters at 1 pm. A report from Srinagar today said that Mirwaiz yesterday said that the APHC-M will devise a "comprehensive strategy" in the aftermath of the Guru's February 9 hanging in Delhi. "We will discuss what strategy is to be adopted for future," he was quoted as saying. "Guru's hanging is very painful for not just Hurriyat but entire Kashmiri nation. He was hanged for the political gains by Government of India…It won't weaken our resolve to fight for the resolution of Kashmir issue. Instead, our resolve has become stronger as Government of India has given us another monument of freedom," he also reportedly said. In other words, he made his anti-India intentions public even before reaching Srinagar.
Why contempt for a nationalist and why very friendly attitude towards a separatist and Pakistani agent? This is the fundamental question that needs an answer. It would not be out of place to mention here that it is such reckless decisions which are responsible for many evils facing the country, including the promotion of separatism and intolerance. |
