JAMMU, Feb 21: Quarterfinals position has been cleared with the entry of four teams into the last eight stages of the All India Inter-University Korfball Tournament, organised by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu on the campus, here today. The quarterfinals have been scheduled for tomorrow in the morning and afternoon sessions. Four teams making it to the quarterfinals today are Punjab University Chandigarh, GNDU Amritsar, Punjabi University Patiala and SG Baba Amravati. However, four top ranking sides of MDU Rohtak, University of Delhi, host University of Jammu and Osmania University had already been placed in quarterfinals. Now, in the quarters, MDU shall be playing against Punjabi University Patiala while JU shall take on SG Baba Amravati at 10 am and 4 pm respectively. Similarly, in other quarterfinals matches, University of Delhi shall lock horns against Punjab University Chandigarh and formidable side of GNDU Amritsar shall play against Osmania University. Earlier, in the pre-quarter finals, played today, PU Patiala defeated University of Pune 18-11 in a well contested match. Earlier, in the pre-quarterfinals, PU Patiala trounced Bilaspur University 24-06 in a one-sided contest. The SG Baba Amravati University trounced Kota University 15-05 to qualify for the last eight stages of the competition. However, Punjab University Chandigarh got walkover after no other side in their group reported. Today's matches were officiated by the technical penal including Tarandeep Singh, Deepak Dutta, Amit, Ashok, Gagandeep Singh, Ashwani Sharma, Amandeep Singh, VP Sharma and Irfan Chowdhary. One of today's pre-quarterfinals played between PU Patiala and Pune University was witnessed by Registrar, JU, Prof Naresh Padha, who was special guest. He interacted with the players from both the teams enquired about their well being. Also present were Director Sports, Prof. Dhian Singh Bhau, Secretary Korfball Federation of India, Manjeet Singh, Treasurer of state korbfball association, Ram Kumar, Dr Brij Baloria, Romesh Sharma, Romesh Magotra, Jai Bharat, Sanjeev Jamwal, Nisha Kumari and Raj Kumar. |
