| NC ,PDP must join hands to keep Congress at bay | | "Detention of Geelani, totally illegal" Ratanpuri | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 24: Terming all the mainstream parties of Kashmir as beggars, Member Parliament and National Conference leader Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri today appealed both PDP and NC to join hands in the interest of people. He termed the detention of Syed Ali Shah Geelani as totally illegal and slammed Government of India for violating the rights of Kashmiri people. "Why we beg before Congress party which secures not more than 5 seats in Jammu and Kashmir and why National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party can't join hands and raise voice against the ill-doings of Central Government,"Ratanpuri told CNS soon after meeting Geelani in New Delhi and added that it was heartning that a Member Parliament was directed not to shake hands with Geelani Sahab and we were kept 5 steps apart by police. He said that Kashmiri's have lost self respect. "When Arvind Kejriwal is detained, Court issues directions to release him and warns Government of India not to violate his fundamental right to protest peacefully, but alas for a Kashmiri such rights don't exist in India. Geelani has been detained without any reason and without any formal order. We Kashmiri's have suffered a lot and we must unite," Ratanpuri said and added that most of the people on social networking site appeals him to resign but he wants to tell them that resignation will not solve the problem. "There must be some people who could raise and highlight the people of Kashmir in Indian Parliament. If inexperienced politicians like me raise the voice why others are not following the suit," he said. Comparing the present illegal detention of Syed Ali Shah Geelani with Late Shiekh Mohmmad Abdullah, Ratanpuri said that he feels sorry for the duplicity of world's largest democracy. "many years ago our tallest leader Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was detained at Kotla Lane for the same reasons and we may go through the related pages of Aatish-e-Chinar to revisit that time, that place, that man and those issues, for which he spent almost two decades in captivity and which are remain unresolved and burning even today," he said and added that time has come that Omar and Mehbooba should not fight for the post of Chief Ministership but should join hands to help Kashmiri people to regain their self-respect which they have lost. Ratanpuri lamented that he was not allowed to meet Syed Ali Shah Geelani. " I entered his flat at 10:50 hours, he with his Begum came out to receive me, but we were kept 5 steps apart by police. Geelani reciprocated Salam with a smile, told me his health is ok, but has been detained without any formal orders, illegally. He told police,"hamare MP Hain, Milne do," (He is our MP, allow him to meet me) police was firm but polite to us. They spoke to seniors, meeting wasn't allowed. I spoke to concerned Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), he told me seniors denied permission. Delhi Police Commissionerr didn't respond to my repeated calls and SMSs. Before leaving I went again to the entrance of Geelani Sahab's flat. He with his Begum Sahiba and daughter saw me off with a smile," Ratanpuri told CNS and added that this differential treatment and discrimination has contributed immensely to complexity of Kashmir problem and the wedge between Kashmir and Delhi. But we have to continue peaceful fight for our rights. |
