| Centre unlikely to hand over Guru's body | | | early times report jammu, Feb 24 : The Centre is unlikely to hand over the body of Afzal Guru to the State government to be buried in his home town. The Home Minister has stated his apprehensions in this regard in a meeting with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday. "The Home Minister was very categorical that handing over the body to the family of Guru is fraught with dangerous consequences of inciting passion leading to law and order people. The Union Home Minister also said that his grave could becoming perpetual rallying point for separatists to provoke and further alienate the people of Kashmir," said senior Home Ministry official. The Chief Minister has asked the Centre to hand over the body to the family of Guru on humanitarian grounds. Omar Abdullah is pressing over it as he feels that the people's anger against the hanging could turn against him in the next general elections and his inability to get back the body could become rallying point in the elections mode by opposition parties and also it could be used by separatists. "The CM had stated his view. But the Centre has to think beyond the political boundries of the State and it 's for this reason that this move will not see the light," said the Home Ministry official. The thinking doing the rounds in the Centre is that there is very much possibility of peace being shattered if his body is brought home and it could have major repercussions especially with the coming tourist season and also country getting into election mode. "There is very much possibility of country going to polls after the budget session and elections could be held in the State also. So if there is violence in the State when the country is going through polls mode it could cost Cong heavily and could alienate the muslim votes, which the party can't afford to loose," said a senior Congress Minister.
