| Wrestler Sujjan wins bronze for J&K | | | et plus report
JAMMU, Mar 5: Wrestler Sujjan Ali brought laurels to the state by winning a bronze medal in the just concluded Mahan Bharat Kesari and All India Invitational Indian Style Wrestling Championship at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. Sujjan, who contested in 96 kg weight category, lost to Sukh Bir of NCR in the semifinals to secure a bronze medal. Earlier, during the preliminary round, he defeated Majahuddin Qureshi of Madhya Pradesh, followed by the second round win against Abhishek Solanki of Gujarat. To reach the semifinals, Sujjan trounced T Puran Singh of Andhra Pradesh. Other wrestlers from the state also performed well but could not make it to the medals tally. Sachin Singh (51 kg) and Rakesh Kumar (74 kg) won two rounds each while Shammi Kumar and Anayat Ali could only make it to the second round.Meanwhile, president of the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma congratulated the bronze winning Sujjan Ali and appreciated the performance of other wrestlers. He said that the medal winner will be honoured suitably by the Association in near future. Shiv Sharma, who also accompanied the seven-member state team in the championship, was all praise for the budding wrestlers. Rakesh Khajuria, Bansi Lal Tidyal, Mulkh Raj Sharma and Prem Kumar were part of the team as officials. |
