| Re-organization demand echoes in Assembly, gains momentum | | | ET Plus Report JAMMU, Mar 5: The re-organization of J&K State has gained momentum with the intellectual groups in the State pressing hard for the same. According to sources various intellectual groups from three regions of the State include Buddhists from Ladakh region, various political and social activists from Jammu region and Kashmiri Pandits from Valley strongly pressing for the demand. The demand gained momentum with MLA National Panthers Party, Balwant Singh making it a part of his speech on Governor's address saying that it was the only alternative to the sufferings of people of Jammu region. He said this demand will some day become a reality and Jammu will have separate Chief Minister while demanding that Civil Secretariat should remain stationary at Srinagar in Kashmir valley and Jammu throughout the year and there should be no Darbar move. The Ladakh Buddhist Association has already been demanding the UT Status for Ladakh region as the people of the region continuously face discrimination through the hands of successive Governments in the State since independence. The Panun Kashmir which also advocates for a separate Homeland for over seven lakh Pandits in Valley has came with a new idea recently demanding re-organization of the State with creation of separate State for Jammu, UT status to Ladakh and carving out of a separate homeland for over seven lakh Pandits in Valley with UT status. This demand was put forth in a seminar organized by PK in Union Capital few days back in which besides BJP national spokesman Ravi Shanker Prasad, large number of intellectuals and political leaders from all the three regions of the State participated. The main purpose of inviting the BJP leader in the seminar was to apprise the main opposition party of the country about the problems being faced by the nationalistic people in the State, a spokesman of the organization said. Maintaining that re-organization was the only solution to the sufferings of Pandits, people of Jammu and Ladakh, he said ``we wanted to solicit opinion of BJP on this important issue''. Describing the formation of J&K State as unnatural Prof Bhim Singh chief patron NPP criticized the approach of the Indian State viz a viz Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He said NPP is committed to implement its agenda 2011 adopted in Jammu in January 2011 in which among other things the Party advocated strongly reorganization of the State establishment of three separate Assemblies one each for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and three separate Chief Ministers for three regions. Though demand is being strongly pressed by Jammu State Morcha (JSM) led by Prof Virender Gupta and some other organizations of the region who accuse the Government of total discrimination with the people of Jammu. Even some student and youth organizations of Jammu have also made the re-orgnization of the State as basic point of their agenda. This demand has gained momentum with the so-called mainstream parties joining hands on Afzal Guru issue the mastermind of 2001 Parliament attack and trying to make him a hero, said Rashpal Singh a student leader from Kathua. He said the way the Government is appeasing the separatists and terrorists involved in waging a war against national unity and integrity, the nationalist people of the two regions Ladakh and Jammu besides the exiled Kashmiri Pandits are left with no alternative but to accelerate the movement for re-organisation of J&K. |
