JAMMU, Mar 9: Jammu and Kashmir Forest XI shall be playing against a tough opponent when they meet Sher-e-Punjab in the final of the ongoing 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College here tomorrow. The final is scheduled at 3.30 pm, which will be followed by the valedictory function of the week-long competition. Earlier, in the semifinals, played today, Sher-e-Punjab trounced the professional side of Power Development Corporation (PDC)-B by a solitary goal. The only goal of the match came through Gurlal Singh in the 52nd minute. Meanwhile, in another semifinal of the day, J&K Forest registered a big 4-1 win against Young Rovers to find berth in the final. Star performer Toufeeq opened the account for J&K Forest netting the ball in the ninth minute. It was followed by a complete domination by the professional department side over local club. However, Young Rovers defended well in the first half of the play, but could not stop the opponent from improving the lead after the breather. Second goal for Forest came in the 56th minute through Rizwan while Manzoor added third goal in 63rd minute, followed by the fifth netted by Shahid in the 75th minute. From Young Rovers, Rahul Kumar reduced the margin by successfully converting a penalty kick awarded in their favour in the 76th minute. Today's semifinals were officiated by the penal of referees including Hilal Ahmed, Shafi Ahmed, Vijay Kumar, Gagan Kumar, Sohan Kumar, Koushal Sharma, Kushey Kumar and Rohit Kumar Gupta. The semifinals were witnessed besides others by Zameel Thakur, Fiaz Ahmad, Romesh Kumar, Yousuf Don and David Masih. |
