| 92 kanal encroached land cleared | | Lal Singh given clean chit | | Sumit Sharma Jammu, Mar 9: Complying the ordess of a Division Bench of the High Court, the police today cleared 92 kanals and 6 marla of encroachment in village Karandi Khurd of Hiranagar tehsil here today. The action was taken by police on the direction of revenue authorities. The state land after eviction was handed over to the Sarpanch of the area for the time being to make a track over it till further orders. The eviction drive continued for full day long as police team led by SDPO Border Mohan Lal Kaith gave protection to the team. . However, sources said that, the revenue authority has given clean chit to MP Lal Singh for his involvement in encroachment. In a report to the court the revenue authority said "Ch Lal Singh's trust is in the possession of 240 kanal of land while as remaining 92 kanal, which was also alleged to have been in his possession, is actually in the control of some different persons and some of them have also sown wheat crop on the same". Pertinently, the encroachment of 92 kanal land in village Karandi Khurd, came to fore when a report in this connection was submitted to then Principal Secretary to Chief Minister on April 2006 by then Vigilance Commissioner Dr Ashok Bhan. The matter was later hushed up. The same was taken up by Professor SK Bhalla in the year 2012 when he filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL), highlighting organized land grabbing by certain police officers/ politicians/bureaucrats in connivance with land mafia/under world in various parts of Jammu/Samba Districts in High Court.The PIL witnessed various hiccups and it was on February 19, 2013, the Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi sought action taken report. The senior advocate DC Raina with advocate Ashish Singh Kotwal were being appeared for MP Choudhary Lal Singh where as advocate Varinder Bhat and Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed were being appeared for the petitioner Prof S K Bhalla. |
