ET Plus Report rajouri, Mar 16: State Youth Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Advocate Ahsan Mirza Saturday claimed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's brainchild Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth (SKEWPY) has completely failed to tackle unemployment problem in the state. In a statement, he said state had over six lakh unemployed youth at the end of 2011 and the count is on. "This problem has always proved a major source of frustration to the youth and a possible cause of depression for them. Every year the number of unemployed youth increases by several thousands. In 2009, the Chief Minister had launched the SKEWPY to tackle the problem of unemployment but despite four years of National Conference-Congress combine in the office, things haven't changed much and now, unemployed youth feel cheated by the government," he added. Mirza claimed that policy announced by the State Government has not created job avenues and it was merely an eye-wash to befool the youth. "From the day one of the announcement of this policy, PDP has made it clear this policy fell short of the requirement and expectations both on account of social security and employment", he said. He added that if the government really wanted to create job opportunities for the youth it should create requisite infrastructure to attract big corporate houses. |
