| Resolution of Pak Assembly echoes in LA for second day | | Jammu Opposition stages walkout | | Aman Sharma Jammu, Mar 16: Demanding a motion to condemn the resolution of the Pakistan National Assembly against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and resenting delay in offering ex gratia to the next of kin of the two IRP jawans killed in Handwara, the entire Jammu opposition staged a walkout from the State Legislative Assembly today after lodging an acrimonious protest in the House during Question Hour. Panther MLA Harshdev Singh was first to set the ball rolling for the Opposition protest when he demanded to know why no ex gratia relief was announced by the Government for the next of kin of the two IRP Jawans who were killed in a militant attack in Handwara even as 13 days had passed since the incident took place. He regretted that while the Governments of the home States of the killed CRPF Jawans had promised generous ex gratia and jobs for the NoK, J&K Government had slept over the matter. "This Government has only dishonoured the martyrs" shouted Singh, making a reference to the absence of any of the Ministers in the wreath laying ceremony for the martyrs at Srinagar Airport the previous day. Harshdev was joined by his party colleagues in the protest. JSM MLA Ashwini regretted that while the Madhya Pradesh CM had shouldered the body of the martyr, our Ministers had not even cared to attend the tribute ceremony. Meanwhile, BJP MLAs, led by Ashok Khajuria demanded a motion to condemn the resolution of Pak National Assembly. While Jugal Kishore, Durga Dass and Ashwini Sharma also seconded the demand raised by Kahjuria, leader of the breakaway BJP group Chaman Lal Gupta questioned the locus standi of Pak Assembly to comment in the internal matters of India. While BJP and NPP MLA continued to press for a motion, Speaker Mubarak Gul ruled that the resolution passed by Pak Assembly had already been condemned and rejected by the Parliament and hence there was no need of this House to bring about any such motion. MY Tarigami also questioned the validity of such a motion. "When the Parliament has already rejected the resolution of Pak Assembly, does it not have its jurisdiction in J&K?," he questioned. Congress MLA Mohd Sharief Niaz rendered support to the protesting members. "Pak resolution is condemnable and interference in the internal affairs of our country," said Niaz. "It is a shame that they did not accept the body of Kasab for the fear of being exposed in the international community and now this resolution passed by the National Assembly of Pakistan only for electoral gains is reprehensible," Niaz added. The opposition MLAs who were protesting in front of Speaker's chair suddenly got infuriated when Minister for RDD Ali Mohammad Sagar entered into argument with them. Ashok Khajuria and Balwant Singh Mankotia climbed on the benches and shouted slogans against Pakistan and the coalition Government. Later, they staged a walkout from the House. |
