| Police reshuffle: Not certainly a routine exercise …! | | Postings well considered, politically calculated | | ET Plus Report Jammu, Mar 16: The long pending exercise of posting and adjusting the higher rank Police officers has finally been accomplished by the NC led coalition Government . The decisions to this effect which were taken in the Cabinet meeting on Friday evening may well be termed as in routine while effecting a reshuffle at the top level in the Police Department but behind certain moves there are motives and thoughts that were well considered before deciding the new postings for the senior most officials. While some officials, no matter under the pretext of promotions, who for one or the other reason were not acceptable to quarters that matter have been 'eased out' of assignments they held hitherto whereas few others have been posted against the places and posts where Government wanted them to be for another term which will continue for another couple of years or more. Sources said the reshuffle which was overdue since promotions announced last year has seen some moves which though did not surprise Police Department and some powerful lobbies in the ruling class, were aimed at facilitating things for officers of own choice for 'choicest places', which may happen soon. The name of one senior officer , for instance has been conveniently kept available for his posting against a high profile post of Director Vigilance , sources said adding that it is a well calculated move for accommodating officers 'desirable' in all respects for the coalition Government. Even as the posting of PL Gupta as ADGP Coordination upon his promotion looks a normal move , but again things are not so they appear in such routine postings as far as the future prospects of postings against the highest post are concerned. In the 'game ' and 'art' of reshuffle what has actually surprised many is adjusting K Rajendra against the post of DG Prisons which certainly is not commensurate with his profile and area of activity he has been into hitherto. That with his posting the Government has chosen to abolish the post of an officer for 'law and order' in itself is loaded with signals both political as well as at the department levels. Sources said while it would have been desired so at the highest level in the Department itself but the Government has taken this decision to 'grind its own axe' for more than one reason. Pertinently, it was the decision of this Government only to create as special post for Rajendra to look after law and order scenario in Kashmir two years back. Why that has now become suddenly dispensable as well as unpalatable for the Government is something that has been given calculated consideration in deciding the new postings. |
