| Police picks up threads in Bemina fidayeen attack | | Baramulla Sikh arrested for providing shelter | |
Mustansir srinagar, Mar 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Police today arrested one more person in connection with the Bemina attack case. Officials said a Government employee belonging to Sikh community identified as Pradeep Singh was arrested last night from his home at Kanispora Baramulla. Police said Pradeep was arrested on the charges of providing shelter to militants who carried out a Fidayeen attack at Bemina in which five paramilitary CRPF men were killed on Wednesday. Earlier, Police had arrested a surrendered militant Bashir Ahmad from Uri in north Kashmir who according to sources was the key player of the conspiracy that was hatched allegedly to avenge the execution of Parliament attack convict, Afzal Guru. Sources privy to investigations said Bashir was the man who arranged the logistics and shelter for the fidayeen. He also did the reconnaissance of the spot before briefing the militants about the security forces movement in the area. Sources said Bashir had received a group of five fidayeen who had crossed from Uri sector in Line of Control to carry the sensational attack. Two of them ex-filtrated back while three - Mohammad Zubair alias Talha Zarar resident of Multan, Haider of Sahiwal and Saif resident of Dera Ghazi Khan stayed back for a fidayeen attack. Bashir, sources said, arranged the travel of the trio to Tangmarg area of north Kashmir where all of them met on March 11 and then came to Srinagar. Bashir is presently putting up in Srinagar , had already done reconnaissance of the target area in Bemina and took them there on March 12. The same day they bought cricket kit bags from Srinagar, which they used to carry arms and ammunition. On March 13, Bashir along with the three ultras travelled to Bemina where two militants were dropped for the attack. Bashir then took third militant Talha to Chattabal area of Srinagar where he was lodged in an already created hideout. Sources said Bashir has revealed the name of Pradeep to his interrogators after which the police swung into action and caught hold of Pradeep at his home late last night. However, the security was beefed up in Valley after arrest of Abu Talha who according to sources has revealed that the terror outfit had sent nine militants through the Uri sector in north Kashmir to carry out suicide attacks following the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. Sources said Abu Talha told interrogators the 12-odd fidayeens that he was heading got help from local Kashmiri boys mainly from Uri and Pattan areas in north Kashmir, who arranged for their stay in Chattabal locality, which was barely two km from the CRPF camp, the target of the Wednesday's attack. Police and CRPF are combing the area for the remaining six militants and the two local youths who provided logistical support, a senior intelligence officer said. Meanwhile, Police today re-imposed restrictions in North Kashmir's Kupwara town following clashes between police and the protesters. Eyewitnesses said clashes broke out today morning after locals protested against the arrest of some youth in the town on Friday. Protesters clashed with police at Bus Stand, Bye Pass road and Regipora. Following the clashes, more reinforcement was deployed in the town and curfew like restrictions were imposed in the town. Old city areas and Maisuma in Srinagar remained under curfew for third consecutive day today. Despite there being no strike call shops, business establishments and schools remained closed in the civil lines areas while traffic movement was thin in the areas from where the curfew was lifted. |
