Share social responsibility, adopt poor children: Dy CM to private institutions

Jammu, Mar 16: Stressing on quality education, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said the government is committed to value based education in the state and all out efforts have been initiated to further the cause of education in government as well as private education institutions. He said private institutions working in the field are contributing their part to the movement launched by the government for universalizing school education in the state. He said private schools should come forward in sharing social responsibility by providing free quality education to the students belonging to weaker and deprived sections of the society.  ”Education institutions working in private sector should adopt underprivileged, handicapped and BPL family children in their respective areas and give such children an opportunity to excel in life,” he exhorted.
Tara Chand was addressing a one day conference of Private School Association, here today at Jammu club.
Describing teaching as noblest of professions, the Deputy Chief Minister said the status of teacher is pious and enjoys a special place in society. “A student after learning goes on to become leader, administrator, scientist and engineer but throughout his life remains indebted to his teacher who has opened vistas of knowledge to him” he added.
Different office bearers of the association presented their views on issues pertaining to private schools and a charter of demands was also submitted. Tara Chand gave a patient hearing to the demands projected and assured that all genuine issues would be addressed on priority. He said a comprehensive education policy is being framed and issues projected by various stakeholders for betterment of education scenario in the state would be addressed in the policy.
“Instructions have already been issued to study good education policies of different states and after taking into account feedback from good educationists, a futuristic policy document would be prepared for the state,” he added.
