Et Plus Report

Jammu, Mar 16 : Usha Sharma mother of late Karan Kumar Sharma while addressing media persons today said that on 28th Sept 2010, my above named deceased son who was a student of BBA at Degree College Udhampur, was invited by Pradeep Singh, Vicky Singh (both R/O Udhampur), Rajan Sharma and Nitin Kumar (both R/O Jammu) for a picnic to Baba Pehad. They all coaxed my son also to swim in the river who refused because he did not know how to swim. Upon this, Rajan and Nitin held him from either side and pulled him into deep water and on reaching in deep water, both released their hold and deliberately left him there with an intent to drown him. Highly frightened from being drowned, my son cried in distress for help and rescue, but none of these four youth came to his rescue, and came out from river.
Meanwhile, my son got drowned and thereafter these youth fled from the spot wearing only under garments leaving their belongings there. Some labourers working on a tipper nearby saw Pradeep and Vicky running away from the place of incident and enquired if someone had drowned.
They replied that none had drowned and the boy who is in deep river, knows swimming. Meanwhile, Rajan and Nitin Kumar, who were wearing only under garments, also fled away. They were halted by BSF camp personnel who on getting suspicious of their deranged condition questioned them. On getting no convicting reply, they reported the matter to local police. A rescue operation was conducted by police next day with the help of Army.
The dead body was fished out of river after three days of the incident. On investigation from the boys by BSF personnel, it was revealed that this incident took place due to forced provocation to Nitin to enter into water. Usha express surprise to understand why only Jammu boys were kept in police lock up for some days whereas Udhampur boys let off by the police. Expressing great concern of totally biased and unprofessional approach of local police in investigating the case, she asked as to why Udhampur boys were not questioned as this may have led to clue behind the mystery of drowning incident. She said perhaps Udhampur boys may have succeeded in influencing police with some political back ground of some MLAs. She painfully said that till date, neither any information about the progress of the case is given to us even after lapse of over 2 ½ years no investigation officer has bothered to visit house of the deceased to find out the condition / problems of the family in distress. She approached Chief Minister, DGP police, IGP Crime and all concerned to probe into the matter and book the culprits involved in the incident and punish them as per the law of the State.
