| Loopholes on LoC to be plugged to check militant ingress | | | Et Plus Report
Jammu, Mar 16 : Following inputs from intelligence agencies on the ingress of five militants into Kashmir from across the LOC in recent days top functionaries of the Army in Jammu and Kashmir have reviewed afresh the border management for the purpose of plugging loopholes wherever they exist.Sources said that the border guards have been directed to carry out fresh recce on the entire LOC and the IB to see if there were some loopholes that needed to be plugged. They have been asked to find out the spots where the border fence has been damaged by the heavy snow that had buried the border routes during the winteer months so that steps could be taken to repair the damaged fence. Besides measures aimed at upgrading the border security grid the security forces, especially the police, have been directed to deal firmly with those separatists who tried to destabilize peace by inciting people to stage street protests. The state authorities have decided to arrest as many protesters as possible as that was going to help the process of restoration of peace in Kashmir and avoid chances for civilian casualties in police action. Reports said that as per the instructions from the Union Home Ministry the state authorities plan to amend the Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) so that the men of the paramilitary forces were not made to sit like sitting ducks during militant attacks. Official sources said that all possible measures were to be taken in hand to restore normalcy to the Kashmir otherwise allowing groups of youth to stage violent protest rallies could cast a thick shadow on the tourist traffic to the valley and to other sectors of development and production. |
