et plus report Jammu, Mar 16: Govern-ment MAM College on Saturday celebrated Intern-ational Women’s Day. According to press release, MLC, Dr Shehnaz Ganai, was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Prof Nalini Kohli, Director Colleges, presided over the function. Ved Ghai, a noted Social Activist, Rajni Sehgal, SP Central Jail, Jammu, Nasr-een Khan, Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides were the Guests of Honour. The programme started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries Prof Ramesh Chander, Principal in his welcome address asserted that International Women’s Day is a moment of global celebration for the economic and social achievements of women. He further stressed that Women constitutes half a nation and both men and women have to work in coordination for the creation of harmonious society. Dr Shehnaz Ganai in her presidential address highlighted the important issues related to women and steps being taken to improve their status and make them aware of their rights. Ved Ghai deliberated upon the need to educate women who would further empower them in achieving better positions in administration and academia. Rajni Sehgal exhorted the participants to sensitize the society in general and students in particular, towards the various social evils confronting the society. Nasreen Khan also dwelt on the need for taking several measures to ensure a gender-neutral and balanced society.
