| Tarigami accuses Govt of perpetuating corruption | | | Mustansir
Srinagar, Aug 2 : Hitting hard at Omar Abdullah led coalition government, State secretary CPI(M), M Y Tarigami said that the democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir have been subverted and the state has earned the dubious distinction of being the most misgoverned state. "Insensitive to any criticism and unwilling to bring the necessary changes for ensuring good governance, the democratic institutions have been subverted and their authority undermined for petty politics" Tarigami told Early Times Plus. Tarigami said the Schemes like MGNREGA which transformed the rural India have become the den of corruption in Jammu and Kashmir. "Though the issue of misappropriation of public money under MGNREGA was agitated many a times in assembly and outside, however, the government seems to have turned deaf and dumb rather it continues to patronize the corrupt involved in the implementation of the scheme directly or indirectly" said Tarigami adding that this makes it obvious that those in office are out to perpetuate corruption instead of eliminating it. "The large-scale corruption is due to a nexus between politicians, bureaucrats and political workers and no meaningful fight against corruption is possible without breaking this nexus" said Tarigami. Tarigami said after rendering State accountability Commission redundant, attempts are being made to erode and undermine the authority of the State's Right to Information Commission with most of the government departments and institutions refusing to cooperate with this vital institution aimed at making governance transparent. "Even the necessary infrastructure has not been provided to this institution" said Tarigami. The Marxist leader further averred the position of some of the other institutions like the Public Service Commission and Selection Board for Subordinate Services is no different. " The sanctity of all democratic institutions is being brazenly eroded in the state. "The deceit tactics of the government is undermining such institutions and has badly shattered peoples' faith in the democracy," said Tarigami who represents Kulgam Constituency in the state legislature since 1996 said peoples' aspirations were belied and hopes shattered. Tarigami regretted the erosion of faith in democratic institutions and expanding miseries of the people is a sordid tale one would like an end to. He said the government continue to thrive on the miseries inflicted on people. and in their own style of self-projection is playing with the image of the people outside state. |
