| 3 years on, Rs 1.5 Crore for Girls hostel in Chenani still unutilized | | Is RMSA a failure in J&K? | | Bivek Mathur Jammu, Aug 2 : Pathetic implementation of the centrally sponsored schemes in the state could be gauged from the fact that a girl hostel in Udhampur district proposed under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in 2010 with an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 Crores is yet to be constructed by the department even as the funds stand released. Highly placed sources in education department informed Early Time plus that in the year 2010, under the central government scheme- RMSA, a proposal was sent to the government for the construction of five girl hostels in the Udhampur district for the girls belonging to the Educationally Backward Blocks (EBBs). Sources added that receiving the proposal, an amount of Rs 1.5 Crores was also released by the Government of India for the construction of one girl's hostel in Chenani tehsil of the district, but even after the passage of approximately three years, no hostel has been constructed as yet. According to sources within the department, the need for the girl hostels was felt after the percentage of girls belonging to rural and far-flung areas, appearing in higher secondary standard was witnessed very low in the district. Consequently the education department of the state in a meeting discussed and proposed five hostels in the district including one in Block Chenani within Government High School Chenani, another in High School Gad Samna Banj of block Dudu, another one in Higher Secondary School Ghordi, Block Ghordi, Girls Middle School Dalsar in Block Ramnagar with one another location in the district.Central Government however, after studying the proposal released fund for the construction of a single hostel at Government High School Chenani, but sadly the education department has failed to construct the hostel till date due to one or other reason and the money released is still non-utilised. |
