Kathua, Aug 2: Overnight rain in Kathua and its outskirt has created havoc in the form of intensive land erosion washing away of several paths led to disconnection of various villages from their main head location, authorities have rescued two youth who were trapped in flash flood in Billawar. As many as 12 people of Gujjar community were trapped in flash floods in Ujh river in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, police said today. The victims were trapped due to sudden flash floods in the river in Rajbagh area this afternoon, they said. The authorities have sought help of an IAF chopper to evacuate them from the inundated area, police said. Frequent water logging, damage houses and other immovable property. The residents of ward number 2, 4,5, 7,9, 10, 11 ,12 and outskirts area Chack Ramchad, Chack Desa Singh, Mahi Chack, Nagari, Ujh, Pandori, areas in high altitude of Billawar and several other area are affected with rain water as rain water gushed into their houses and shops and caused severe damage to houses and properties also. Negligence of administration and civic body council regarding development of lanes and drains have been exposed by the incessant rains in Kathua. The residents are forced to face severe problems of water logging inside the shops, houses and on the streets and accumulation of heaps of garbage at various spots in Kathua. Despite the severe damages to the houses and streets, the several business installations in Kathua also suffered losses as rain water entered several shops in Kathua. Ashok Kumar, Vaid Sharma, Bharat Bushan, Jeevan Jyoti Sharma, Rinku, Joginder Pal, Ajay, Kuldeep Sharma, Om Parkash, and Naresh Kumar said that our street in ward. No. 2 is totally was inundated after having an overnight rain, the over flowing water from drain entered into our houses and created havoc the foul smelling water. They allege that rainfall in Kathua exposed the faulty planning of development of lanes and drains and negligence of concerned agency and department. Meanwhile, Billawar Bridge over the Naj River is being trapped by flood, as the river's water had increased due to incessant overnight rains up reaches. The water flow has crossed the marked danger sign and gripped the bridge to bear the threat of washing away is reported by the sources. Two young men David and Chotu who were trapped by flash flood in river Naj were rescued. The bridge is still under the threat and continually facing the aggression of resented river Naj the locals demands the permanent and effective remedial measures for the protection of bridge. The overnight heavy rains have created the havoc for the people of the Billawar where as it is reported a kccha house has been collapsed after being trapped in a land sliding in far flung area on the top of higher reaches in Panchayat Dhanali. After collapsing of the kccha house of Manzir Ahmad was rescued adequately and with god bless no family members are reported to be injured. The sarpanch of the Panchayat Karnail demanded the compensation and some financial help to cover the loss of a Victim Manzir Ahmad from the district administration Kathua. |
