| Dilapidated roads of Udhampur impeding tourists in area | | | Et REPORT UDHAMPUR, Aug 8: Tall claims of state government to give fillip to tourism in Jammu province seems only on papers as it has failed to improve the condition of roads. The residents of the area said that road conditions in Reasi district are so bad that local residents feel they are still living in pre independent India. The condition of most roads has gone from bad to worse at Katra, in Reasi district the base camp of the most revered shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi and one of the busiest towns of the state, causing great inconvenience to pilgrims visiting. "The road condition at the main bus stand and entry point to the town gives an impression to pilgrims that they are entering a highly backward district said a local resident Sunny Sharma. The roads leading to other tourist destinations like the , the Shiv Khori Shrine, the Shiar Bawa temple , and Dera Bawa Sahib are in a deplorable condition." As the majority of tourists arrive in the state using the surface transport, the neglected condition of roads is a dampener for the tourism promotion," felt Ajay Salaria alocal resident. Reasi road has been started by BEACON more than eight years before but after completing 13 kilometres work is going on with snails pace . He added that widening of rest of the stretch has been completed but due to unconcern of BEACON and administration it is not being black toped giving nightmare to commuters and tourist visiting here . He added that urgent repair and black-topping could put an end to the travelling woes of tourists. |
