Jammu, Aug 14: A youth reportedly drowned while several persons trapped in flash floods in river Basantar in Samba district and in river Tawi in Jammu were rescued. Authorities also pressed chopper into service to rescue the people trapped in river Tawi. However, exhibiting traditional bond of amity, some Muslims youth rescued a Sadhu trapped in river Tawi and took him to Madarassa. As per reports, the Sadhu was trapped in river Tawi in Gujjar Nagar. He was rescued by the residents of Gujjar Nagar and was later taken to the Madarassa till help came from authorities. Three people trapped in river Tawi at Belicharana area were rescued by authorities by pressing chopper into service even as one person was reportedly drowned. Meanwhile, Samba Police in coordination with Civil Administration rescued 7 members of Gujjar community including four ladies during the intervening night of 13/14.08.2013 at 03:00 am when the water level receded. They were trapped at a pasture on river Basantar at Chak Dayala, Supwal. The rescued persons have been identified as Bawey S/O Allah Ditta, Maradu S/O Bawey, Shah Din S/O Mir Baaj, Kalsoom Bibi D/O Haji Mir Hussain, (5) Rupi W/O Sadiq Hussain, (6) Amna D/O Nazir Ahmed and (7) Reshma W/O Saleem, all residents of Chak Dayala, Supwal. District Police Samba in coordination Civil Administration launched the rescue operation and brought them back to the shore when the water level receded. Israr Khan, SSP Samba and Deputy Commissioner, Samba personally supervised the rescue operation. |
