| Will Pak Army allow Sharif to befriend India? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 14: Is Pakistan waging war against India on the borders in Jammu and Kashmir for promoting peace ? Will intermittent but heavy firing on the Indian posts lead to fresh conflict or force he two sides to go in for dialogue in search of peace ? These questions seem to bother India and not Pakistan because as far as Pakistan is concerned two voices or two signals contradictory to each other emanate. While Prime Minister,Nawaz Sharif, continues to voice favour for promoting peace and cordial ties with India, the Army and the IS I authorities keep on supporting troops engaged in ceasefire violations. These authorities provide assistance to militants in crossing into Jammu and Kashmir. The day Nawaz Sharif called for peace with India,Pak troops violated ceasefire in Samba sector of Jammu, the sixth violation during the last five days.W hom should India believe ? Troops or Nawaz Sharif.Possibly New Delhi has to bank on the Pak Army's response because Nawaz Sharif is yet to assert his authority. In the light of growing tension over incidents of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC), Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called for a new beginning in ties with India so that all outstanding issues can be settled in a "friendly manner.""Let us make a new beginning. Let us sit together to resolve all outstanding issues in a friendly manner and in a peaceful atmosphere," Nawaz has said . Nawaz, who has repeatedly spoken of his desire to improve relations with India since he became premier in June, said the two countries should become good friends."We must become good friends. Hold each other's hands. We must sit together with an open and clean heart," he has said. "Now that 65 years of independence have passed, both countries need to improve their ties for their betterment and prosperity, Nawaz said. Clashes along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir since July have increased tensions between the two countries. India accused the Pakistan Army of killing five of its troops in an attack along the LoC. The charge was rejected by Pakistan, which on Monday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gopal Baglay to protest "continuous ceasefire violations" along the LoC. It claimed a civilian was killed in firing by Indian forces at Rawalakot.Yes,India is ready to hold t alks with Pakist an but the process of dialogue may get further delayed in case Pak troops continued to target Indian border posts with rocket and mortar fire.To avoid this situation it is better for Nawaz Sharif to discuss the ceasefirbe violation issue with the senior functionaries of the Army.Otherwise his plea for stopping LOC firing may not have any impact on the troops. Sharif last week expressed his sadness over the incidents along the LoC that had resulted in the flaring up of tensions and the loss of "precious human lives". He also said it was imperative for India and Pakistan to take effective steps to restore the ceasefire on the LoC. One will watch whether Sharif wins the battle against his Army or loses his aim of befriending India. |
