Jammu, Aug 14: About fifty doctors went back to Srinagar following verbal duel with their counterparts in PG hostel of GMC hospital over Kishtwar violence leaving their further studies and services of health department in lurch. Meanwhile Jammu police arrested several protestors including a Congress leader for setting the vehicle on fire at Domana area a couple of days ago. As per reports, Domana police arrested a Youth Congress leader namely Ravi Sethi and his associate Sunil Kumar for setting a Tata Sumo on fire on Jammu Akhnoor road at Domana a couple of days ago. Both were arrested from GMC hospital.Police also arrested several other protestors from their residences after identifying them. Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of BJP stated that it will launch an agitation after Independence Day, to demand the release of "innocent" persons detained in connection with Kishtwar violence and compensation to traders, who have suffered losses and damages. It will also seek the strengthening of Village Defence Committees (VDCs) which have played a vital role in controlling militancy. "After the Independence Day, our party will launch a sustained agitation in support of the demands conceded by the government in the wake of Kishtwar incidents," state party president Jugal Kishore Sharma said. "These demands include immediate release of innocent persons under detention, paying compensation to the minority traders who has suffered during the Kishtwar riots and further strengthening of the VDCs," he added. The BJP, for the time being, has suspended its agitation, including a shutdown called for Saturday keeping in view the Independence Day celebrations tomorrow. The party, along with other organizations, had called for a shutdown last Saturday in protest against the communal violence in Kishtwar. It had later extended the shutdown to Sunday and Monday, demanding resignation of MoS Home Sajjad Kitchloo. Meanwhile, VHP said that it will launch an agitation from August 16 in support of its demand for full compensation for losses incurred by minority community traders in Kishtwar in the communal clashes which rocked the town on Eid. "We have suspended the bandh for time being -- we will resume agitation from August 16 and continue it till our demands are met," VHP state chief Rama Kant Dubey said. |
