Kathua, Aug 14: Two bike riders were targeted, chased and abused by sleuths of Kathua police deployed to ensure that peace prevailed in the region, just because one of them was wearing a scarf with saffron shade. Eyewitnesses told that as the duo rode off in front of the policemen, they were chased and abused for belonging to a particular community. Though he was let off later, the incident has raised serious question mark on the mindset of the policemen who assign colours to communities and respond with prejudice and bias. "How can police be entrusted with controlling communal violence, when they are themselves communally biased?" said a leader of a political party. "It would be improper to accuse Police of communal bias as even Home minister of the country has assigned colours to terrorism and that to in the parliament" he added making a reference to the statement of former Home Minister P, Chidambaram in the Parliament wherein he had accused a National political party of patronizing 'saffron terror'. |
