| NC rattles political calm again, Rana trains guns on BJP | | In tight spot, Cong Ministers confined to constituencies | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 14: With gradual improvement in the situation across the Jammu region , political storm that erupted three days back between the political parties while indulging in bitter exchange of words and serious accusations over clashes in Kishtwar , has been replaced by an uneasy calm , more so between the ruling allies National Conference and Congress. Though NC is still venturing out with superficial statements loaded with rhetoric on need to maintain communal harmony, while training guns on BJP alone today, a stunned Congress continues to wrap itself in layers of confusion which struck it from day one of trouble.
Three days after what was witnessed on the political front, there is little reprieve from war of nerves, while opposition PDP and BJP has eased out the government from continuous attack of severe criticism for failures and lapses, NC's Jammu stalwart Devinder Singh Rana has chosen to stir up the hornet's nest once again with a long statement in which he has lauded 'timely action' by the government which according to him has instilled a sense of confidence and security among the communities . While adorning his statement with expressions like pluralistic ethos, brotherhood and amity, Rana has made brazen attack against BJP for what he has alleged that the party muddled the whole atmosphere and was responsible for polarizing the situation with eye on ensuing elections. It is however a known fact as tow ho vitiated the atmoshphere and on whose directions the administration and police remained standstill for hours that augmented trouble in Kishtwar last Friday.
Five days after playing the 'political stroke', much to its favour, his is the hot topic in the political corridors as to who gained and to what extent in the political one up manship post clashes and on the whole on account of communal clashes mainly in and around Kishtwar. NC may point its finger against BJP, it is for even a politically naive and ignorant person to comprehend as to what it gained by 'fishing' in troubled waters and highly sensitive, vulnerable political climate of Kishtwar. It is for the BJP to decide how or not to hit back on these accusations made by NC stalwart.
As for the Congress, it has enveloped itself in silent mode with most of the minsters in Jammu region having confined themselves to their constituencies. Sources said no meeting, what so ever was held by Congress at any level for the last three days to discuss the prevailing sitaution in and around Jammu or in Kishtwar. While PCC Chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz is in Delhi for Parliament session, the ministers are confined to their constituencies as all of them find the party in a tight spot post the developments that caught them unawares. Sources said the Jammu based ministers a worried lot and at a loss to decide future course of action that would help in controlling some damage which none other than its own partner NC has afflicted on them, directly or indirectly. Sources said while no meeting has so far been held by the so called "peace commitee' of five members set up by the Congress, they are all waiting for a nod from New Delhi and PC leadership as to when they should visit Kishtwar . Most likely, sources said they would make it by Aug 17 or 18. |
