"The majority of the population (nearly 85 %) who access internet in J&K use services of the private companies and now all of them have been directly affected", he added. . While talking to Early Times Shahnawaz Mir a social & political activist from Khansahib Budgam said that the people who use Internet in J&K are mostly associated with Tour and Travel trade and the temporary ban on internet service has affected this business .The online airline and train ticket bookings has been seriously affected. The business of hoteliers has come to standstill", he said. " Many students who intend to take admissions under PM's Special Scholarship Scheme could not make online registrations at the last moment and now the online portal has been closed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) . The AICTE has been coordinating the admission process on the directions of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and now we are forced to file a complaint against the Government in SHRC " It is pertinent to mention that hundreds of people from J&K state are working as reporters with various newspapers , news magazines, online news magazine , blogs , and the ban on internet has seriously affected their work as well because most of these people do not use BSNL Broadband services but use mobile Internet / Dongle services whose service is totally barred right now in J&K. The Broadband service is connected through the landline telephone and thus the service has to be used at one place only and this is the main reason majority of people prefer dongle and mobile internet services only .Even the BSNL Dongle service is also barred right now . The ban, a social activist said violated Article 19 of the Indian Constitution which guarantees every citizen the Freedom of Expression and Speech. From January till date the internet services have been jammed on many occasions in the name of security. Since last few years whenever any un toward incident happens, he government responds by curbing the internet. Such bans are directly affecting the business and work of people associated with tour and travel , hotel business . A civil society group has filed a complaint against the temporary banning of the internet services in J&K. |
