EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 14: Demanding immediate appointment of a Judge to head judicial commission to inquiry Kishtwar incident, the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) said that announcement is imperative so that Commission can start its proceedings forthwith against the accused and the relevant evidence is not destroyed or tampered with by anybody. In a meeting of the JKHCBA, held under the chairmanship of its president M K Bhardwaj at the High Court Complex, Janipur here today, the members stressed upon the Government to assess the actual loss of the traders at Kishtwar and elsewhere in Jammu region and disbursement of the same to them, so that they can be rehabilitated at the earliest and restart their normal life. It was opined by the members that in the prevailing circumstances it is the need of the hour to strengthen the village defence committees, so as to encourage the nationalist forces, who have always stood by the nation in the odd and tough situations and have countered the anti-national elements by courage without caring for any threat or fear. The demand of disbanding of VDCs, which is an anti-national approach, needs to be rejected by all Indians including the central as well as state government. JKHCBA, Jammu was also of the opinion that, so far as the gagging of the electronic media is concerned, it amounts to curtailment of freedom of speech and expression which is a fundamental right, as enshrined under the state as well as Indian Constitution. Members present also expressed their grave concern and strongly condemned the resolution passed in Pak Assembly, whereby while misquoting the real and actual facts, it has blamed the Indian forces of violation of ceasefire at LOC, despite the fact that all the ceasefire violations have been committed by the Pakistani forces, which is habitual of such violations in the past also. Meanwhile, the members of the Association led by its office bearers pleaded the cases of the innocent persons arrested by the Police, before the courts and helped in their release from the police custody. Bar Association has appealed that any person who has grievance with regard to legal issues is welcome to contact any of the office bearers or members of the Association, to seek free legal aid, help and assistance. |
