| PDP leader Khurshid Alam asks youth to channelize their energies | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 25: Senior People Democratic Party (PDP) leader Khurshid Alam on Sunday urged the youth of to channelize their energies for the overall good of the people of the down town which has been almost abandoned by the ruling elite particularly NC and who have been exploiting the situation which has all along been uncertain in the area. He alleged that the people of Srinagar city particularly the Shaheri Khas has been isolated and NC has been doing all overt and covert effort to the keep the people of the area away from any electoral process which suits them politically. Alam said the NC has historically curtailed the development vision of the residents of Srinagar through their emotional exploitation which has reduced the once most glorious habitation of the region to an urban disaster. Alam said even though cities and towns throughout the country benefited from the JNNURM for upgrading civic amenities especially the drainage and sewerage, Srinagar has failed to even make a beginning as a result of the inefficiency and lack of political direction. Even the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded prestigious projects for reconstruction has been derailed which could have contributed significantly to the sanitation to the city. Alam said the aloofness of Srinagar from democratic process has resulted in disempowerment of its people which has led its beneficiaries, the NC, to take them for granted. He said unless there was an element of accountability, the people of the capital city would continue to face problems. "Make your representatives accountable and things will start improving", he said. |
