Kishtwar, Aug 25: After continuous curfew for 12 consecutive days following Eid violence, that left 3 killed and over 50, wounded, beside large scale vandalizing, burning and looting of shops by the rioters, the traders of Kishtwar finally opened their shops after 15 days. The local trade union suspended strike demanding compensation at par with the damages to their business and property. The traders while suspending the strike warned the government that in case their demands were not met, they will launch fresh agitation. Even though the traders called off their strike, the whole of Kishtwar town wore a deserted look as many shops and business establishments have been reduce to ashes. Heavy rush was witnessed outside Kiryana and medical shops. Meanwhile the administration has decided to open all the educational Institutions from next Thursday . When contacted Divisional commissioner Jammu Shant Mannu informed the "Early Times" that after restoration of normalcy in the District, the local administration has decided of open all the educational institutions after Janmashtimi holiday. In a question regarding the disbursement of compensation among the victims of Eid violence, Divisional Commissioner Jammu said that the assessment of the losses to the property has been completed and the same was received by his office. He said that he had already forwarded the file to concerned quarters for final approval and added that the same will be disbursed shortly. He said that as per the decision already taken by the government, any victim who suffered 50% damages will get 2 lac compensation, while next of kin of the deceased would be paid Rs. 5 lakh. Shant Mannu refused comment over demand of enhancement of relief. |
