Sports Reporter JAMMU, Aug 25: Raman Volleyball Club today lifted the Open Volleyball (Independence Day) Tournament, organised by Sahyog Committee at Sports Stadium, Bari Brahmana, here. In the final, played this afternoon, Raman Club outplayed equally good BSF Jammu in a close contest that lasted for four sets with former making it a 3-1 win. Earlier, BSF Jammu won the opening set, but could not control their nerves in the remaining sets. The score: 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22. In the semifinals, BSF Jammu beat Volleyball Club Manwal (Pathankot) 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-20) while Raman Club trounced Volleyball Club Kathrol (Pathankot) again in straight sets of 25-20, 25-17, 25-11. Meanwhile, the women's title trophy went to Army School BD Bari, who beat Volleyball Club Samailpur 2-1 (25-22, 25-27, 15-13). Competition was officiated by the technical penal including Mulkh Raj Sharma, Shashi Sharma and Uttam Sharma. In the finals and valedictory function, former Minister, Surjit Singh Slathia was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. The men's winner team bagged Rs 11,000 cash prize while the runners-up BSF Jammu presented Rs 8100 cash prize. Prominent among others present were Subash Sharma (vice-president Volleyball Association of J&K), Dharam Paul, Karampaul, Rakesh Sambyal, Gulam Hazarat Ali and Bhagwan Dass. |
