8/26/2013 12:24:20 AM

Early Times Report

Sopore 25 Aug : Former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil has said that dialogue is the only way to resolve issues and Hurriyat Conference must accept this reality and extend their full cooperation in resolving the Kashmir issue, so that aspirations of the people of State are not exploited anymore by those people having vested interest in keeping the pot boiling here.
Emphasizing need for early dialogue on the issue, Vakil reiterated that Confrontation and violence was never in anybody's interest. He appealed Hurriyat leadership to shun abhorrence and participate in the dialogue process to bring an end to the spate of violence across the Valley. The society has received heavy jolt on all fronts and economy has received downgraded but some people still want to do politics on dead bodies. He pointed out that continued reluctance of the Hurriyat leadership in coming forward for talks was not understandable. Vakil was addressing a joint gathering of party workers and Fruit Growers in Sopore .
Vakil also expressed his grave concern over neglect of fruit industry in the State. He said over lakhs of people are associated with horticulture industry and solely dependent on it for their livelihood but callous attitude of government towards these people and industry has left many high and dry. Despite Fruit Industry being recognized as the back bone of the our economy, State Government does not even bother to provided basic assistance to the people associated with this sector, which is evident from the fact that despite reduction in total income of growers during the current year to meager 20% and damages to trees due to spread of some diseases in view of recent unfavourable environmental factors, there has been no Government intervention and growers have been left with no alternative except to leave the industry, which is detrimental to the economy of the state. He urged government to devise a mechanism for Fruit Growers so that they can get some interest waivers from Banks or other financial institutions. He promised growers that he will leave no stone unturned to help and save this industry.
Besides, others who addressed the convention included senior Congress leader and Ex-MLC Haji Ali Mohammad Bhat, District President Gh. Hassan Shah and Senior Leader Gh. Nabi Shah, Pt. Brij Nath Nehru.
