Jammu, Aug 29: Gujjar Bakerwal Students' Welfare Association (GBSWA) today held a protest against Jammu University administration for not establishing "Gojri Research Centre' under the leadership of its state president Talib Hussain. Activists of association assembled at University campus and shouted slogans against JU administration. Speaking on the occasion, Talib Hussain said that the Gujjar Bakerwal Community is third largest community of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and richest in the culture. First time in 2002, University students of this down trodden community raised their voices for "Gojri research centre" in Jammu University Campus. After six years long struggle, the University council meet approved it in 2008 in which former Governor SK Sinha, Pro chancellor Gulam Nabi Azad and the then vice chancellor Prof. Varun Sahni were present in the meeting. But the authorities of the University have not done anything in this regard. He said present VC JU, M.P. Singh Ishar had promised to act upon it but he did not took single step in this regard. Talib threatened JU administration to hold state level protest until their demand will not be conceded. GBSWA also demanded the immediate admission in PG Hostel for the students of Gujjar and Bakrwal community of Higher education. The building has been hired from January 2013 but admissions are not given to the needy students who are suffering a lot. Same P.G. Hostel is demanded by GBSWA for Kashmir region, he said. |
