| J&K not ready to learn lesson from Aug 9 violence, CCTVs still miles away | | | Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, Aug 29: Not learning lessons from past, Government of Jammu and Kashmir despite clearing the project of installation of CCTV camera's at various sensitive places in Kishtwar town and its vicinity some two years ago is yet to begin work for the same. The CCTVs are yet to be installed despite Kishtwar having witnessed worst kind of communal violence on August 9, 2013 in the town. Even though the company assigned with the job of installation of the CCTV's in the town inspected the sites some six month ago and even erected the tower at various places in the town some 3 months ago, but no CCTV has been installed till date. If insiders are to be believed, the departmental corruption is hampering completion of the installation of CCTV cameras in the town. As per the reports, among many towers erected in the town, scrape mafia working in the District manage to pull down one such tower erected in the town and authorities till date even failed to establish whether the 30 feet tower ever stood at that place or not. The tower was removed in such a manner that no trace was left behind. Keeping in view prevailing tension in the District in the aftermath of August 9 violence, there is an urgency for immediate installation of CCTV cameras in Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas so that proper vigil and monitoring of any suspect activity on part of anti national and anti social elements could be traced and checked. It is pertinent to mention that one such CCTV camera was also proposed for epicenter of August 9 violence I.e. Kuleed Chowk Kishtwar and authorities even installed one tower at the Chowk, but due to official apathy, the CCTV camera was not installed till date. In case the CCTV camera was installed at the place of incident, the real culprits involved behind August 9 violence could have easily been behind the bars. |
