| DIG DKR still in place, BJP demands his scalp | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 29: Despite resonating voices for the removal of DIG DKR from various sections in district Kishtwar for his inability and negligence to control communal violence in Kishtwar, the Government has chosen to sleep over the decision, raising aspersions on its intention. BJP Spokesperson Dr Jitendra Singh questioned intentions of State Government in refusing to transfer DIG DKR Ashkoor Wani. The issue was also raised in Rajya Sabha today. He further said that a press conference was also held in district Kishtwar by BJP in which demand for removal of DIG DKR was also raised for the safety of both the communities. BJP also demanded compensation on loss base individually that to be done by impartial person, besides security of BJP workers. A senior police officer giving information said that transfers and posting has become an industry. A handful of officers manage plum/price postings in police stations, sub divisions, districts, ranges and zones. "What is the compulsion of the Govt, why DIG DKR is not being removed, who failed to deliver as senior most officer in the range, beside, what other senior police officers were doing when Kishtwar was boiling?" he said. If the sources are to be believed, DIG Ashkoor Wani remained controversial when he was SP Anantnag where he was censured for tempering of the merit list of the aspirants of constables. During his tenure he continuously enjoyed plum/choice postings. DKR was also his choice post and accordingly he managed the same and was transferred from Udhampur to DKR immaturely. Sources further said that the police officer in question, may be posted as DIG Baramulla, if more pressure from BJP mounted. Sources further said that Ashkoor Wani has been enjoying political patronage as one of the Ministers in Omar's Cabinet, from whom, he bought about 40 kanal land somewhere in Jammu is backing him. |
