| Patients buy surgical items from market for undergoing surgeries at SMGS | | Where are the medical supplies worth crores? | | ET Report Jammu, Aug 29 : The Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) government hospital in Jammu is duping patients by not providing them the surgical items from within the hospital. Patients admitted in the hospital for various procedures are told by the hospital authorities to buy these surgical items from shops outside hospital and refuse to provide anything from the hospital. With no option available patients or their attendants buy the surgical items from outside and hand it over to the hospital staff for starting surgery. "I was handed over a list of surgical items by the hospital staff to buy from shops outside the hospital. Without listening to my query, the hospital staff asked me to get it done fast," said Subash Sharma, an attendant with a patient. Sharma's wife was admitted in the SMGS hospital on Thursday and had to go for surgery during night hours. "My wife had developed some problem in uterus and was advised a surgery. I had information that hospital authorities provide all sort of surgical items but I was handed over a slip and was asked to get surgical items from outside," he added. He was asked to get syringes, drip set, disposable gloves and much more. Sharma bought these items from a medical store in city chowk area of Shalamar outside SMGS hospital. The hospital administration had no answer to the queries put forth regarding the issue. "The surgical items have to be provided by hospital staff and the patient should have gone to chief medical officer (CMO) of SMGS hospital and asked him to help," said officials of SMGS hospital. But administration had no answer as to why patient are asked to purchase surgical items. |
