Rather urges engineers to make good use of limited working season

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: The Minister for Finance and Ladakh, Abdul Rahim Rather today asked the officers and engineers of Rural Development Department to expedite work on various ongoing projects and make good use of limited working season in Kashmir Division, so that benefits of these schemes accrue to the people at ground level.
Speaking at a meeting here today convened to review pace of work on various ongoing rural development works especially MGNREGA in District Budgam, Rather asked the concerned executing agencies to take up only need based works, which shall have impact on the ground and are visible. He said field agencies should conduct a thorough exercise to identify short comings, if any, so that all the ongoing projects are completed within scheduled time frame. The District Divisional Commissioner, Budgam, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Director Local Bodies Kashmir, Altaf Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Development, Budgam, Ikram-Ullah Tak, Chief Planning officer, Budgam, Executive Engineer Rural development Department, Block Development officers of Nagam and Chadoora and concerned officers and engineers were present in the meeting.
Rather also urged for equitable and balanced developed of all areas, so that people in general feel that they are getting their due share in allotment of funds and equitable justice. "No area should feel neglected with regard to allotment of funds", Rather asserted. He said concerned field agencies should redress grievances of the people and genuine demands raised by them during various public meetings being conducted by various Ministers from time to time. He said it is our obligation to fulfill the commitments made to the people at an earliest.
Rather directed the officers to take up construction of a modern multipurpose community hall at Badipora, Nagam besides, restoration and repairs of bridges and other assets damaged due to recent floods. The Assistant Commissioner, Budgam informed the meeting that under labour components of MGNREGA about Rs. 15 crore have been incurred during the current fiscal so far against an availability of Rs. 17 crore.
He said about 2883 development works costing Rs. 33.41 crore have been taken up in different areas of the district. Off these, 1343 works have been completed with an expenditure of Rs. 14 crore. Under Indira Awas Yojna, against a target of 636 houses, construction of 216 houses has been completed so far. He said 50 Panchayat ghars are under construction in various villages of the district where as construction of 20 Panchayats Ghars has been completed. He said in total about 39 Panchayat Ghars are to be constructed in the district each costing Rs. 20 lakh.
