No agreement exists between J&K NHPC over hydroelectric projects

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Information sought under Right to Information (RTI) act by a social activist has revealed that no agreements have taken place between Government of Jammu and Kashmir and National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) in major power projects.
It has come to fore that only Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the state government with the NHPC. In its reply to the applicant Khalid Tufail, Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) vide letter dated March 28, 2013 stated that "no such agreement in respect of Uri, Dulhasti and Salal is available with their office." Details provided by JKSPDC reveals that "an MoU has been entered into between Government of India and Government of Jammu and Kashmir in respect of Kishanganga, Uri-II, Bursar, Sewa II, Pakal Dul, Nimoo Bazgo and Chutak while no separate agreement has been entered into with NHPC for power projects being executed by it."
