| IT raids on seven prominent city jewellers | | Rs 24 Cr coughed up | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 5: The seven jewellers in city on whose business premises Income Tax Department conducted raids today surrendered Rs 24 crore. As per sources Rs 10 cr was surrendered by jeweller Roshan Shah, Rs 8 crore was surrendered by Silver Line jeweller while Rs 6 crore by rest of the jewellers. The big amount was realized following the scrutiny of the documents seized by the sleuths of Income Tax department from the premises as well as business establishments of the jewellers. The amount was realized while the Swarankar Jewellers Association (SJA) and Sarafa Bazar Association (SBA) have given call for two day shut down in view raids. They said that they have already faced heavy loss due to Kishtwar violence and later curfew imposed in Jammu. The sleuths of Income Tax Department from Punjab and Jammu circle conducted raid in seven jewelers shop in Jain Bazaar area,when they were allegedly evading tax despite several warning to them. Sources said that raids were conducted by different teams of IT who also took help of local police while carrying on their operation. They said that the jewellery shops like Talla, Silver Lines, Vijay, Roshan, Raman Suri, Krishna, Kanya were surveyed while residence of one of the known jeweller at Sector -6 in Channi Himmat was also surveyed by the IT team. Sources in the IT department said that close watch being maintained on all these jewellers due to their heavy expenditure on advertisements and promotional activities. It is pertinent to mention here that last year in September Income Tax department had exposed the tax evasion worth crores of rupees from the five plush Jewellery showrooms in Jammu. |
