| KPs for having 'consensus' within community for 2014 poll agenda | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 5: At a time when all the political parties are gearing up for elections scheduled next year and drawing strategies to consolidate position , thrust being on wooing the electorate in all constituencies, Kashmiri Pandit community which forms a sizable vote bank in some key constituencies are also considering options as to what should be their agenda for 2014 in terms of extending support to the parties. Sources said though no formal decision has been taken yet by any organization in this direction but there is a discussion going on with some key bodies that the community should follow a line of action drawn by major organizations which would determine whether the community would cast votes in both Parliamentary elections as well as Assembly elections or stay away from the process , as has been the strategy in the past , though not followed strictly by the entire community. "In order to show that KP votes too are precious and decisive in some constituencies, there is a yearning among the youth that community should remain on a united platform in both the cases …… the idea and purpose of having unity over the elections next year is to give an impression that even though small in numbers, the votes are precious ….", said a KP leader. Sources also said some leaders in Jammu are considering to take the initiative of bringing major political bodies like Panun Kashmir, All India Kashmiri Samaj, All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference , Delhi Samiti , Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch on one platform and ask them to discuss this issue of deciding agenda for 2014 with consensus. These leaders are ready to visit the Jagti township and other camps to have the views of the people habituating there on board with regard to participation in the elections and more importantly, which party they deemed appropriate to get the KP vote support. " If this initiative works out, a panel would be formed which would have one member each from one organization ……this panel would meet the leaders of all major political parties ahead of polls and explore what is in their kitty for the community in exile", said the leader. There are so many key issues unsettled and problems un addressed….despite assurances nothing major has been gained by the community which is still agitating for genuine issues like a Temple Bill and so many other issues, he added, while explaining the need to have consensus within the community on drawing strategy for 2014 polls. The panel proposal if clicked, would also work out ahead of polls most important issue of having the electoral rolls revised for all constituencies . In addition to taking a look at the existing lists, it would approach the Election Commission to address the discrepancies which are galore in terms of names of voters deleted or not incorporated afresh in the revised voter lists. |
