J&K Civil Society team visits Kishtwar, assesses situation

JAMMU, Sept 5: A delegation of the J&K Civil Society, Jammu after completing its two days tour of Kishtwar returned back to Jammu today. The team assessed the situation there and will now be formulating its Interim report on the situation in a week's time. The members who formed the delegation of the Sub-committee comprise Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, Dineshwar Singh and KCS Mehta. It may be recalled that the open session of the Seminar held on August 25 at Jammu resolutely formed a Civil Society delegation to visit Kishtwar.
The team met prominent citizens and people of different sections in the town and its suburbs and also visited the markets that were hit by the violence on August 9. It met the members of Business/Traders Associations, students, the victims of fire incidents and management of some prominent educational institutions. The delegation also visited the villages of Sangram Bhatta, Matta and Wassar and met people there. The members of the delegation also visited the residence of Arvind Raj (26) who was killed on the fateful day. Later, the team members had meetings with the Dy. Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police of Kishtwar district. A meeting of prominent citizens was held at TRC-Kishtwar, which was attended by a sizeable number of citizens from all walks of life.
It was decided by the Sub-committee to forward its Interim report to the Chairman of the Delegation, Ashwani Sharma, MLA for a decision to prepare its final report on the Kishtwar situation after full delegation's visit to the town.
