Letter written to CJ regarding rape of mentally challenged treated as PIL vDB grants 1-week time for submitting additional documents | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 9: A letter written by visually disabled advocate Suraj Singh to Chief Justice of High Court seeking directions to J&K Police for fair/impartial investigation in connection with FIR 183/2013 register at P/S Bahu Fort Jammu u/s 376-C /109 RPC has been treated as Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by the court. In the application it was prayed that the same be treated as PIL so that the investigation be monitored by the State High Court. The Chief Justice treated the same letter as PIL which was listed today before Division Bench comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey. The DB after hearing advocate SS Ahmed with advocate Suraj Singh (petitioner) observed that during the course of arguments counsel stated that they want to place on record certain documents to strengthen the cause as projected herein for which they seek just week's time which was granted by the Court with the direction that in case the needful is done within stipulated period, directed registry to list this PIL again in the next regular cause list. In the letter addressed to the Chief Justice, Suraj Singh, who is the only visually impaired advocate of Jammu and Kashmir practicing in the High Court Jammu Wing, has sought in-depth and thorough probe into the sexual exploitation of mentally challenged girls at Home run by Rotary Inner Wheels at Channi Rama. He further prayed before the Chief Justice that the investigation of FIR No.183/2013 under Section 376-C and 109 RPC of Police Station Trikuta Nagar be monitored by the Court by treating his letter as PIL. |
