JAMMU, Sept 9: Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu (JU) observed September nine as 'Save Himalaya Day' with focus on 'Himalaya Past, Present and Future' in light of the recent catastrophe of Uthhrakhand. The event was organised in collaboration with J&K Almi Khudai Khidmatgar Association, Himalayan Environmental Services and Conservation Organization (HESO) Dehradun, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi and Activity Public Higher Secondary School, here. Director Colleges Development Council, Prof. Desh Bandhu was chief guest, while Head of the Department of Environment Science, Prof. RK Rampal and Convener, Board of Studies, Prof. AK Raina were guests of honor. In his address, Prof. Desh Bandhu exhorted the audience to be rational while using all the resources, needed in day to day life to ensure that nothing was used unnecessarily or wasted, be it water, paper, power or items of clothing and footwear. Earlier, Prof. RK Rampal formerly welcomed the participants and other guests, followed by a presentation on Utthrakhand disaster and activities of J&K Almi Khudai Khidmatgar Association. For their participation in the debate and painting competition on the occasion, students of Activity Public School were awarded prizes and certificates. Formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Deepika Slathia. Among others present included Dr. Sanjay Sharma and Avtar Singh. |
