| With 200 dead in 5-yrs, Omar wants to serve with sincerity | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 17: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had earlier served as Union Minister, and whose tenure has seen maximum number of deaths, wants to serve the people to lay the foundation of progress in the State. The Chief Minister interacting with the students in Jammu, the first time he had done so in Jammu, said he wants to serve the people in the best possible manner. About two-hundred people have died across the state in different violent incidents. About 110 people died alone in 2010 turbulent summer in Kashmir alone. The cycle of violence didn't stop there and every day killing are taking place. About 100 pilgrims died in 2012 Amarnath yatra, and the number came down drastically this year because of the stringent observation by the Supreme Court. It's probably only during the tenure of the Omar Abdullah that hardliner separatists Syed Ali Shah Geelani issued protest calendar in 2010, which he has renewed now and people followed it thus virtually undermining the writ of the State. Leaders of opposition in both Houses of the Parliament- Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley- were stopped and deported from Jammu airport, even twice. It happened during the tenure of Omar Abdullah. Even in the height of militancy, MM Joshi unfurled national flag at Srinagar. 'The state which was polarized in 2008, was once again at the brink of polarization because of the violence in Kishtwar, which happened because of the utter failure of the local administration. The Chief Minister also said that when he will leave the space, he would have laid the foundation of peace in the State, which would be capitalized by the new player. The same Chief Minister questioned the very accession of J&K with the India in his statement in the House. Omar Abdullah had been consistently and deliberately raking up the Kashmir issue so as to keep the separatists feeling boiling in the Kashmir and in the process is further alienating it from the rest of the country. Omar draws the reference of Sachin Tendulkar, Leander Peas and Baiching Bhutia to drive the point that every one has to leave. But all these legendry players had left a legacy and inspired youngsters. And can this be said about Omar Abdullah, when people even in Kashmir blame him for the ills facing the State. |
