| JU ignores resolution of Academic Council | | Prof in Economics did not teach for years | | Abodh Sharma Jammu, Sept 17: Reflecting poorly on the management of the human resource in the Jammu University, a professor has been allowed to draw huge salary every month without taking a single lecture for years. Awkward it may sound, but the fact is that Professor Dhian Singh Bhau, a professor in Economics in the Department of Distance Education of the JU has not taken a single class in more than four years and the department of Economics within the DDE has since been locked, to the utter inconvenience and dismay of the students from across the region aspiring to study Economics. Sources disclose that Dhian Singh was assigned important duties in the university administration including Dean Students Welfare after Dr. PS Pathania became Registrar of the University as he was important member of former's coterie. He was however removed from the sensitive position and appointed as Director Sports and Physical Education more than four years back, where he is continuing till today eventhough he had no background, acumen or understanding of sports. In a bid to project his confidante in the centre stage of university administration, the former Registrar shut down the department of Economics in the DDE, which continues to be in oblivion till today. However, while the former Registrar can be accused of nepotism and administrative myopia, the present university administration can be accused of ignoring the resolution of its Academic Council, the highest governing body of the university, headed by none other than the Chancellor. Highly placed sources in the university divulge that the Council had resolved that various courses in Economics in the DDE should be resumed at the earliest and the only professor in Economics in DDE, Dhian Singh should be deputed to take regular classes, but more than six months since then, University administration has failed to utilize services of Dhian Singh, who has become a professor, who has not taught for years. "The appointments given to the university professors are like additional responsibilities which they have to perform in addition to their primary duty which is teaching" said a senior officer in the University. He however refused to comment when asked how could Dhian Singh draw huge salary for years without taking a single class. |
