| Prime land encroached at Gandhinagar | | Residents allege 'deal' with Congress Minister | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 17: Nexus between Politicians and land mafia has come to the fore again, with a blatant encroachment on the prime land appearing in Gandhinagar locality. Sources disclose that large scale encroachments were reported along the Gandhi Nagar main road near last morh area due to failure of the J&K housing Board to demarcate its green strip. Those who had their plots adjacent to this green strip reportedly encroached upon the land, following which JKHB issued notices to the violators. However, most of these encroachers to give up the encroached land if the JKHB developed a green park along the strip. Notwithstanding the agreements, a brazen encroachment has recently come up in the vicinity, wherein a commercial structure has been raised and despite objections raised by the residents, JKHB has failed to intervene and stop the illegal construction. "The encroacher struck a deal with a Jammu based Congress Minister, who then prevailed upon JKHB to shut its eyes to the encroachment. The resentment is brewing amongst the residents, especially those who had agreed to give up land under their occupation amicably. "Why did we give up land under our possession if the Minister had to patronize the encroachers?" questioned a resident pleading anonymity. |
