EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 22: Tehsil Level Committees Jammu of Jat Mahasabha held a Sammelan here today at Choudhary Palace, Kalluchak wherein hundreds of Jats gathered to express their views over issues being taken up with the Government. In the Sammelan, Jats voiced their concern over the fate of refugees issue and urged the Government to be serious in solving their demands of one time settlement, RBA category for those residing within 8 km of International Border area, ownership rights to the refugees of 1947 1965, 1971 and OBC. They expressed their disappointment with previous leaders, for never taking the effort to commence talks with Govt, not even when the Govt had directed a cabinet order, decision no. 133/12 dated 18.07.2002, and approving inclusions of areas within 8 km of International Border Area in the list of socially and educationally backward classes. Had such efforts being taken at that time, when the order was directed, it would have been implemented till now. But now, it will take time and wide efforts of reminders to dig up files of order directed 11 years before, yet not implemented. The speakers said that if the Government did not pay serious attention towards their demands, they will protest on roads. Speaking on the occasion, President Jat Mahasabha Choudhary Manmohan Singh appealed other communities to come forward as the refugees are not just Jats, and at present a joint effort needs to be employed to constantly remind Government of their rights.
