| Traders call for Kishtwar bandh today | | Kishtwar violence | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Sept 22: Dejected over continuous empty rhetoric from the government and District administration with regards to early disbursement of compensation among the August 9 Kishtwar communal clashes victims, Traders Association Kishtwar has called for complete shutdown tomorrow against the government and administrative failure in disbursing the compensation among the traders who suffered losses due to loot and arson. In a press statement issued by the Traders Association Kishtwar, President of the association stated that the association has decided to stage a Dharna and to observe complete shutdown on Monday. It is pertinent to mention that over 50 persons has been arrested by the joint Special Investigation Team in connection with the various cases registered by the police in connection with August 9th and August 10th violence at Kishtwar and Padder. Police have also produced 4 challans in the court of Principle District and Session Judge Kishtwar. When contacted, President Traders Association Kishtwar Rakesh Gupta informed ET that the association was forced to observe a shutdown tomorrow as both administration and government have failed to distribute the compensation among the victims of August 9 communal clashes even after 45 days. He said that the traders will observe a peace strike and slammed the administration and police for refusing permission to them for staging a peaceful Dharna. He said that he along with other members of the association had approached the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar for permission and added that the concerned Deputy Commissioner did not pay any heed towards their genuine demand. He said that Kishtwar police also turned a deaf ear to the plight and the suffering of the traders. He said that the trader community was suffering heavily with each passing day and those whose children were studying in professional colleges were major sufferers since they had to arrange the hostel fees and other expenses for their children. "DC made us wait for two days " said Rakesh Gupta. He said that after getting dejected from both police and administration, the association had decided to observe complete shutdown tomorrow. He said the traders will also sit on peaceful Dharna and wear black badges. |
