| Prof Soz for implementation of Land Acquisition Act in J&K | | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Sept 22: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President, Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz today said that Land Acquisition Act should be introduced in the state so that benefits of legislation reach the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Talking to media persons after the one day convention here, Prof. Soz said the participants of the convention highlighted the importance of Land Acquisition Act and said that same needs to be put into practice in the state. He said the legislation is revolutionary and is bound to transform the lives of people whose land is utilized by the government for any developmental project. "The convention of Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee urged the state government to set in motion a mechanism for adoption of food security and the land acquisition laws in the interest of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. These laws are pro-people and these laws will confer benefits to the people of state and as such needs to be implemented in state," said the PCC President. Prof. Soz said that a political resolution was passed during the convention and it was impressed upon the state government to implement the Land Acquisition Act in letter and spirit. He said during the convention some other resolutions were passed with thumping majority adding the convention turned out to be successful one. "The state cabinet had approved the transfer of 18 mandatory formations on March 18, 2013 and the necessary orders to this effect were passed. The ministry of local bodies had shown its willingness to organize elections to the local bodies but the same were not held. During today's convention a resolution was passed for holding the elections to the local bodies in the state at the earliest," said the PCC President. Prof. Soz said that a resolution for strengthening the Panchayati Raj system in the state adding that 73rd and 74th amendments should be incorporated in the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir. He said powers should be transferred to Sarpanchs and Panchs so that they discharge their duties as the real representatives of people at grassroots level. During the convention 32 leaders, workers and activists of Congress addressed the participants and shared their viewpoint on the various aspects of party functioning in the state. The participants carried out deliberations and discussions and passed the resolutions. The resolutions were presented by Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Taj Mohi-ud-din, Nawang Rigzin Jora and Ghulam Nabi Monga. |
