| JU enhances hostel fee, students in quandary | | | MOHD IRFAN Jammu, Sept 22 : Meritorious students from far flung areas, pursuing their post graduate courses in Jammu University who manage accommodation in its hostels are a discouraged lot as JU has affected hefty rise in the hostel fee. "Previously, the hostel fee was Rs 3000/- per month for new comers which has been raised to 5400/-, while the renewal fee for the subsequent years has been raised from Rs 2200/- per month to 3400/- per month. Sources said JU administration has devised the procedure of allotting accommodation to the students on the basis of reservation and their performance in academic & co-curricular activities. "JU administration has taken this step of enhancement of fees so that students are discouraged by exhorbitant fee and prefer to make their own boarding and lodging arrangemnents " claimed a students seeking hostel accommodation, adding that the situation has left students of peripheral districts who are generally from middle class backgrounds in quandary. Despite enhancing the fee the hostels are in dilapidated condition and students often rue poor sanitation, stinking urinals, broken doors etc. "Due to exhorbitant fee, I am not opting for hostel and would prefer a rented accommodation instead "he lamented. |
